A Change in the way resort incidentals are charged to your credit card may make it extremely difficult to use gift cards

Recommended Posts

Reading through what I believe is the Disney DVC Facebook group I stumbled across this post by a David Resende

" ... Just so everyone understands the new policy regarding spending with your magic bands. For those especially who use discounted Disney gift cards purchased at Target, etc...please be advised. Now they take a credit card on file and immediately debit "pending" on the card $100.00. Once you spend over 100.00 dollars they deduct that amount from the deposit held and will either "pend" an additional 100.00 or if you purchased more that 100.00 on the first monies held, they will charge that amount to the card and they pend an additional 100.00. Ex: 100.00 lender upon arrival. Dinner and park purchase 180.00. They charge 180.00 to your credit card and pend an additional 100.00 for future purchases. I used to go down before check out and pay off all or most of my tab with Disney Gift cards. But now you will have to call them daily or every other day and give them the Disney gift cards to prevent your spending from being charged to your credit card. And, no...you cant just give them the Disney cards up front, say on the day of arrival for a credit on your account. They wont do that. ..."

Reading through the comments it seems

1) This went into effect on Feb 27

2) Seem the consensus is 5 days is the actual limit. So the answer is to stop by the front desk more often to pay down your bill if you are going to use gift cards.

As always, your mileage and results will vary

So, when i was there in February I inquired and they do "hold" your credit card, but i was able to go down and use the gift cards to pay down the account every 1-2 days.  They do not take any up front, but I will ask at the desk if best to stop in morning or evening to apply.  I want my 5%!! lol

just another thing to make it difficult for vacationers.  Kim does this all the time and it works because well it's just her...she can stop by the front desk any time she chooses.  What will be hard is when you have a family that is busy busy touring parks, keeping kids happy etc it just makes it more difficult for them.   Lets face it, it is more stressful vacationing with littles, I've done it many times, the last thing they want to worry about is stopping by the front desk every few days to pay off the bill.  I try to avoid using MBs to pay anything because i don't feel like worrying about going to the front desk to pay and that's OK, it's my choice.   One of the reasons was because i would get all they way  to my room and then realize i forgot to stop to check the bill.  Well it's too late now, i have my Disney jammies on.  It's not like it's Wal-Mart, you can't go to the front desk in your jammies...just the pool! :D

See Nut, you're not the only one who wears their night gown to the pool :P

So if you don't want to stop and pay your bill from time to time, absolutely buy the gift cards and carry them with you or just don't pay the bill and let it charge the card.  Its a choice, its all up to you :)

This is just the type of hard-hitting trip reporting we need around here.

This is a paragraph according to WDW News Today.

"Guests have the option of not putting a credit card on file, but they will be unable to use their Magic Band for charging at the resort or in the parks. As is current practice, guests will be able to visit the front desk to apply cash or gift card payments against their balance due to avoid actual charges being placed on their credit card."
