wihumphrey & SB's Valentine Trip Report

Recommended Posts

  • Left the house at 4 am and trudged through the snow to get to the airport. Take off was slightly delayed due to de-icing but we arrived on schedule at sunny MCO.
  • Checked our bags and headed to Disney Springs
  • Lunch at The Edison     Incredible theming. Friendly staff. I had Alva's Lemon Elixer while wihumphrey had the Time Turner cocktail and enjoyed the Deviled Eggs for an appetizer. wihumphrey ordered the Organic Tomato Soup with Oogey Gooey Grilled Cheese which he proclaimed the best grilled cheese he ever had. I got a special of the day, a French Dip Sandwich with fries. With tax and tip the bill was $82.00 - a little pricey!
  • Got a text  from the resort about stopping at the desk regarding an issue with our room. We went to the desk - something about our magic bands hadn't linked, and got our room #4007 - yes, we've had this view before.
  • Rivers of Lights 7:15 PM  Had a FP and got front row to stream from.

  • Walked over to Epcot
  • Had breakfast at the Garden Grill with Pluto, Chip, Dale, and Mickey. Enjoyed the fresh fruit, cinnamon rolls in a skillet and the skillet with scrambled eggs, bacon, sausage, potato barrels, and Mickey waffles.
  • Had a FP for Soarin' and so headed over there. Was so thankful we had FP for Living with the Land. It had over a 30 minute wait. Walked over to the Pixar Short Film theatre and enjoyed all 3 of the films.
  • Checked out some of the booths for the Epcot Festival of the Arts
  • Watched the Living Statues who were very entertaining!
  • Napped
  • Headed back to Epcot for the 6:45 pm Disney on Broadway Concert. We so grateful we got to see Ashley Brown and Josh Strickland. Ashley was the first Mary Poppins on Broadway and has also played Belle. Josh was the original Tarzan on Broadway. They were both so talented and sang songs from Tarzan, Mary Poppins, Beauty and the Beast, Newsies, and Frozen.
  • We then went to the FP area for Illuminations, Reflections of Earth. We were disappointed that ustream kept stopping since we had a wonderful spot in the FP area to view the show .

  • We met NH and OH in the lobby of the BW at 9:15 to drive over to Port Orleans French Quarters to view the Mardi Gras parade. Jeepy comfortably got us there and we met alicesadventure and her DH
  • The Harmonies have scouted out a great area to film the parade! We enjoyed seeing the cast members and their floats. We really enjoyed the theme of the parade this year - Sweet Treats - especially since they gave out more than just candy and beads this year. We received popcorn, Mickey bars, and some member of our group got Dole whips.
  • We headed to the bus stop to get to the Magic Kingdom and took a boat over to the Grand Floridian to have lunch at the Grand Floridian Cafe. We looked at what has changed since we stayed at GF way back in 2004 - the DVC building and the children's water play area. We headed to the front door and got to meet Richard, the legendary greeter at the Grand Floridian. Had a short wait at the Grand Floridian for lunch. wihumphrey had a rueben sandwich and I had a Lobster "Thermidor" Burger. Yes, it had pieces of lobster on top of a burger and, yes, it was fabulous!
  • Took the boat back to the MK and got walked off of Splash Mountain.
  • Got a spot right at the start of the parade route for the Festival of Fantasy Parade. You know you might have been going to wdw too many times when you know exactly when the dragon in the parade is going to blow fire.
  • Enjoyed the Mine Train, Small World, Mickey's Philharmagic, Small World, Buzz and TTA
  • Got a great spot for Happily Ever After
  • Took some photos and headed home for the night

  • Had a fabulous surprise waiting outside of the Hollywood Tower of Terror Hotel . . . the Bell Hop - the one in the commercials - a few years back
  • Enjoyed Muppet Vision 3D and the First Time in Forever Sing-a-Long
  • Needed a nap after our exciting Mardi Gras day
  • Flying Fish has been redone and is so sophisticated and pleasing to the eyes. They offered a prix fixe menu that included shrimp cocktail, filet mignon, lobster tail and delicious chocolate fondue
  • Grabbed a cab to get to DHS for our FP for Fantasmic. We were in the Jafar section and enjoyed the show.
  • We were pleasantly surprised that we got a great spot for Disney Movie Magic and Star Wars a Galactic spectacular.
  • Enjoyed a boat ride back to the Boardwalk and enjoyed one of the buskers on the BoardWalk

  • Off to the safari at AK . . . didn't see the baby hippo but did see the lion standing up
  • Loved the Festival of the Lion King and couldn't even believe that It's Tough to be a Bug had a 55 minute wait
  • We explored Pandora and wihumphrey could enjoy Flight of Passage this time because he took Dramamine
  • Went back for a sun break to the BW
  • Headed to MK to use our paper FP from getting walked off Splash Mountain on Tuesday
  • Took the train back to Main Street since we wanted to get over to Epcot quickly and grabbed the Express Monorail
  • Made great time and the doors closed on the monorail . . . then a message was broadcast saying we had a delay due to traffic congestion.
  • and again
  • and again
  • and again
  • Finally the pilot told our car that we had to wait until they got an all clear from Epcot. Some one had pulled a fire alarm in SSE and they had to hold
  • Eventually we were on the way to Epcot and arrived in time to use our SSE fast pass.
  • Walked over toward World Showcase Lagoon and saw an open spot between two of the food booths. We were in the front row with no one to our right. It was a lovely night.

:wub:FRIDAY,  FEB 16

  • Got up and finished packing, took the camera down and headed down to the airline check.
  • We had reservations at the Festival  of the Arts Workshop featuring Paige O'Hara. She and her husband, also an actor, talked about her acting career and shared anecdotes about working on Beauty and the Beast. They also shared her love for painting. We could hardly believe the hour and 1/2 was over!
  • We rode Frozen Ever after, and started off on wihumphrey's last day Epcot Experience
  • enjoyed the film in the Chinese pavilion and had lunch at Nine Dragons
  • Got to the American Adventure Pavilion and heard the end of the Voices of Liberty Concert
  • hadn't seen the American Adventure and wanted to see what was new. The film is clearer now that it has been digitized and has an updated ending. The animatronics have been refreshed and look great!
  • As always wihumphrey ends his adventure with the film in the French pavilion and it was wonderful as always.Couldn't stream because wifi was awful.
  • Since we didn't have to be back at Epcot until 6, we took a friendship boat from Morocco to Canada and landed right where you could help paint a mural. We got color #10 a lime green
  • We sadly headed back to the Boardwalk to change into our cold weather clothes and boarded the tragical express.
