For those of you with a dSLR - do you have a lens you keep on your camera body most of the time? One you consider to be your "walk around" lens?

Before I got my new camera body I used the Canon 28-135 IS lens probably about 80% of the time. Now I use the lens that came as the kit lens and LOVE it. It is the Canon 24-105L IS. Talk about a sharp lens.

The other one I use second most - especially at Disney is my Sigma 10-20 ultra wide. I have been really happy with it as well.

I have Fuji and we got a lens kit off ebay that is a wide angle and that is what I keep on the camera. The only thing is, is that I don't have a secure cap for it....just a rubber one that doesnt stay on....:icon_blah:

that has to be frustrating. Have you tried a ritz or wolf camera store? Lots of times they will have lens caps to fit.

I just got the Canon 50D for Christmas and it came with the 28-135 mm lense, do you think this will be a good walk around lense to take on my up coming WDW trip, or should I purchase something else, perhaps the 55 mm?

I used that lens 75% of the time when I was at Disney last June - LOVED it. It still is my most used lens ever. The other lenses I used were the Sigma 10-20mm and the Canon 70-200L. However the 28-135IS, like I said - was on my camera more than any other and not just at Disney.

I am debating giving it to my 15 yr old now. I won't be using it since I have the 24-105L that came with my new camera body. Just having a hard time parting with it - even though all it is doing is sitting there.

Can't really afford L-glass for my 40D, so I normally walk around with the Canon 17-85 IS. I find I use it at the 17 end rather more than the 85.

Thanks for the help, how do you like the Sigma, I'm kinda afraid to get anything other then a Canon lense. Does it give the same quality as a Canon? :icon_lol:

It actually gives me BETTER quality than some of my lower end Canon lenses. I love love love it. Here are a few photos I took with it at Disney last June.

I also used it to photograph some of the fireworks (wishes and illuminations) but cropped them for a "closer" feel.

I can't afford L glass either so when I go on vacation I rent from online shops. This past trip I rented Canon L-glass 24-70mm 2.8, 2 Weeks cost me $91.00. It was cheaper than buying a new lens that I would probably only use once or twice a year.

Wow, those are beautiful:icon_worthy:. I'm going to have to look into one of those, do you mind if I ask where you bought it and how much it was?

I love the slightly oversaturated look to the colour on your shots Jen, what settings or post-processing do you use?

I think I paid in the 400.00 - 500.00 range, but honestly I do not remember exactly how much it was.

I converted from raw to jpg using the raw converter that came with my canon camera (I use lightroom 2.2 now) and then cropped and sharpened using photoshop elements 5.

I didn't increase saturation at all. I did use a circular polorizer however and that really helped with the sky. For some reason I have noticed that my 30D really super saturates EVERYTHING and I usually DE-saturate nearly everything in post.

Skin tones in portraits taken with it always have a reddish hue to them - sooo frustrating.

But then again - who knows - it could be something I was doing with the software from Canon. And to think about it - I stopped noticing it as much when I switched over to Lightroom to convert my files.

Gladly my 5DM2 doesn't seem to do that as much. It will be interesting to see how it is when we go to WDW this coming June.

thank you. :) They weren't so "amazing" when I first started out. I just read everything I could get my hands on and practice daily.

I still have a lot of room for improvement - and that is my goal - to just keep learning and getting better - personally and professionally.

I also use the Canon 17 - 85 IS lens. It is on my camera over 90% of the time. After the kids get out of college, I may spend the money to get L glass. But, it is so much heavier and bulkier that I am not sure I want to lug it around Disney.
