View Full Version : Software of Choice? wdwnut 01-08-2009, 10:10 PM So what is the software everyone uses to upload their pics? I just use Windows Explorer, drag & drop. I don't like any of those programs, Picasa, Adobe Albums, to transfer my photos. They make too many assumptions about where I might want to save them, I create my own folders and transfer them. I use Picasa and Photoshop only to edit, create web albums and slideshows, etc. Waternoose 01-08-2009, 11:46 PM You mean to transfer from your camera to your PC? That is the cleanest - easiest way and you dont have to worry about installing some piece of junk program thats likely not to work and if it does wont really offer you much in the way of true value any way. Course with that said I only use that method 20-30% of the time. I have ZoomBrowser which came with my Sony camera - its not one of those extenive programs - it basically shows a slideviewer where I can see thumbnails and choose which ones to delete or download to PC - more or less the exact same thing I could do connected to the camera as a drive. :icon_rofl: Photo editing is with ps or psp depending on how the file will be used. Andre 01-09-2009, 05:06 AM I've settled on using the Canon software purely to autodownload any new images from the camera into a dated folder in my My Pictures folder. After that it's tools of my own choice - and I only delete the photos from the memory card myself, when I'm ready to do so, rather than letting software decide. Andre wdwnut 01-09-2009, 08:04 AM Thanks! I used the software a little last night and it was ok to download the pics from the camera to the computer. I also delete the picture myself from the card, never let the software do it automatically. I thinki have something like zoombrowser also. But I did not like it for editing the pictures. I cropped one picture thought i saved it and e-mailed it to myself at work. When i looked at the picture this am it wasn't cropped! I think i'm going to uninstall the software and get photoshop. Seems to be the software of choice for most people i ask. Thanks for your input! Andre 01-09-2009, 11:50 AM You won't go far wrong with Photoshop (apart from the price). Andre DVCJen 01-09-2009, 12:49 PM I use a card reader to get my photos from my CF card to my PC. I also shoot in raw format because when it comes to photography I am a bit of a control freak and like to process my own photos. ;) So I then open in Lightroom 2.2, process and or edit the files to my liking - save as a jpg (keeping the original raw file untouched) and save that. Then if I feel more detailed editing needs to be done I use either Photoshop elements or CS4 - which I just got and I am trying desperately to learn. tinkcrafter 01-09-2009, 01:44 PM Hey Jen...when you learn photoshop...teach me? I just move my pictures via windows explorer and a card reader and use micorsoft to edit! LOl DVCJen 01-09-2009, 02:47 PM Hey Jen...when you learn photoshop...teach me? I just move my pictures via windows explorer and a card reader and use micorsoft to edit! LOl LOL sure! No problem. I have kinda figured it out. Very basic stuff - but there is SOOOO much it can do that I haven't even begun to play with. wdwnut 01-12-2009, 09:04 PM Ok I think i need to see a Chiropractor, why do i take slanted pictures. They look great if you tilt your head! Can software take care of that usually? As of now i can't find out how to correct it with the canon software that came with the camera but i am planning to buy something better. Andre 01-13-2009, 01:47 AM Ok I think i need to see a Chiropractor, why do i take slanted pictures. Was there alcohol involved at any point? :) But yes, any decent photo editing program will allow you to rotate images, but you do need to be aware that this will mean cropping a little bit off the image when you square it up. Much better to get it right in the camera in the first place if you can - if it's always the same way, try adjusting the way you hold the camera to compensate. Andre DVCJen 01-13-2009, 11:32 AM I have a tendency to be a bit on the crooked side myself. ;) I usually straighten in lightroom wdwnut 01-13-2009, 12:03 PM Was there alcohol involved at any point? :) Andre LMAO! No, maybe i should have a few before i go! I will pay attention more! jaylincs 03-27-2009, 12:48 PM I use iphoto on my macs it has some basic editing tools but is great for organizing, the new version has face recognition which is quite cool. I'mNoPrince 03-27-2009, 01:04 PM I use Windows Explorer to get them on the Computer. IrfanView for a veiwer Microsoft Digital Image for and major changes . Another trick I use is any Editing I do at all I do a SaveAS and add a postfix ( ei. C for crop ,RR rotateright,I for image) this way I know if I'm dealing with the Original or what type of Edit it was |
