View Full Version : Camera of choice?
Waternoose 01-07-2009, 05:08 PM What camera do you take along with you when you go to Disney?
The first year we went I took a large camera, along with a camcorder and loads of goodies - it was a lot to tote along.
These days I prefer a very small easy to fit in my pocket camera. The last few years I've been using a Sony Cybershot DSC-T100 - along with being very easy to tote it takes pretty decent photos. Its a 8.1 megapixels cam - having had it a few years. I imagine they have come out with something in the 10mb range by now - hmmmmmm time for a new camera! :icon_rofl:
Andre 01-07-2009, 05:21 PM Canon 40D DSLR and several lenses/etc. Big, but nice results.

SorcererMickey 01-07-2009, 06:44 PM I've been using a DSC-H5 (http://www.dcresource.com/reviews/sony/dsc_h5-review/) for the last 3 years and don't think I will be replacing it any time soon. It's great, the usual Sony pop in the images and a nice zoom.
I also carry a Sony DSC-W55 (http://www.imaging-resource.com/PRODS/W55/W55A.HTM), which is basically the same engine as the DSC-H5 but in a small format.
And they both take awesome video, check out this link (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F8z8YIG2Nvw) and click on watch in high quality under the video window.
wdwnut 01-08-2009, 01:35 PM I have always used Kodak Easy Share camers. One is 6mp with a 12x digital zoom and the other is a 4mp with a 5x dig. zoom. But, i'm very excited to say that i just got yesterday a Canon XS 10 mp digital SLR! I'm still trying to figure it out but it takes great action shots and that is what i was looking for. I take a lot of pictures at the kids soccer games. I will admit it is a bit cumbersom to take all the time but i can use one of my other digitals that are more compact. My DH is ready to commit me because that brings me up to 6 cameras! HEY, I don't complain when he has more than 6 beers in the refrigerator! :icon_rofl:
DVCJen 01-09-2009, 12:51 PM I usually take two ( I know I know, but I hate changing lenses all the time).
Last year it was the Canon XTi and the Canon 30D (both dSLR). A few weeks ago I upgraded my main camera body from the 30D to the new Canon 5DM2 and gave my XTi to my youngest daughter.
I am really looking forward to seeing what I can get at Disney with the 5DM2 - especially at night. Will June ever get here?
cazzie 01-09-2009, 02:36 PM I would love a DSLR but I can't see that happening a while yet so I have to stay with my Fuji S8100fd.
frisina04 01-09-2009, 06:32 PM used a dsc-h1 for 4 years now, just got the dsc-h50 for xmas... cant wait try it out
Winnie 01-09-2009, 08:33 PM We used a Nikon Coolpix with 10.0 Megapixels our last trip and got pretty decent photo's once we figured it out. (We had just bought it before our trip)...
mikey 01-10-2009, 02:58 AM I currently take a Canon 30D & a few lenses. Looking to upgrade to my photography addiction. I'm looking forward to hear Jen's review of the 5D MKII
tinkcrafter 01-10-2009, 09:24 AM DVCJen, Wow...how do you drag them around in the parks and not get a sore..back/neck?

I love love love the 5DM2. I wanted it for the wonderful low light capabilities and it has NOT disappointed me at all. My youngest daughter is very active in dance and the shots I was getting with the 30D - well I was very unhappy with the noise in them. I simply could not set the ISO high enough to get my shutter speed fast enough to stop motion and get an image I would actually want to use. The 30D is a fantastic camera and I used it daily - and learned a lot while using it. I was simply ready for the next step. Last month I was so lucky - the camera came into the store I ordered it from the day of Emily's Christmas recital. We sat in the second row becasue I really wanted to use the Kit lens - 24-105L IS (so I knew I had to be close) and I cranked the ISO up to 6400. Here are some of the results.

While they are not 100% noise free - it is soooo much better than I was getting with the 30D.
Just for fun here are a few more I have recently shot with the 5DM2

ISO - 400 (noise would start to show at ISO 400 with my 30D - none here :) )
F/4.5
Shutter - 1/90
DVCJen, Wow...how do you drag them around in the parks and not get a sore..back/neck?
LOL It really just depends on what lens is on the cameras. The one I use the majority of the time is the one with the heaviest lens usually and I have it around my neck but also support the lens with my hand - hold the lens in my hand. The other camera is carried more like a purse at an angle - around my neck but crossed over my body with my arm through the strap. It equalizes the weight.
AND - when I am carrying the two camera bodies - the hubster is lugging around the camera bag. :D He is a great guy and puts up with a lot from me. ;)
MauiMouse 01-10-2009, 12:44 PM Beautiful pictures.
I have two cameras, well three now. I have a Minolta Dimage that takes 4 AA batteries, they are such a pain to lug around, the extra batteries. Plus I have to get new rechargeables as they just don't seem to want to keep that charge any longer. My other camera is a Canon SD630, I like it because it's small, can fit in my pocket. I hate carrying a bunch of stuff in the parks.
But I'm looking to get an new camera in the near future, that is if I can save enough cash. We shall see.
mikey 01-10-2009, 07:07 PM Wow! Great pictures Jen!
Sold me on the 5D MKII!! Thanks for the review & sample photos!
I too like the 30D but am unhappy with the noise at higher ISO's. Like you said, I too have learned alot from using the 30D, but am ready for the next step up
Thanks again

Lovely pics. I wish I could get my DW to be so helpful as to carry my camera bag around for me, but her attitude (quite fairly, to be honest) is that if I'm stupid enough to carry such a big camera kit, that's my problem.
She doesn't bother carrying a camera herself, on the basis that there's a perfectly good one that takes snaps on her Nokia phone. And anyway, my pictures always look better than hers so why should she bother? (No, explaining doesn't help :icon_lol: )

tinktini 01-11-2009, 07:20 AM For my last couple of trips I've taken my little P&S (Olympus 8.1 mp) This trip though I thinking of taking my Canon 50D. I'm a little scared of losing or breaking it, so I'm not completely sure yet.
