Well well looks like trouble ahead !!!

mom2mykids 01-23-2009, 06:39 AM WOW. It's kinda like a local news story that gets picked up by the national media adn then it just spreads.
SorcererMickey 01-23-2009, 10:12 AM :icon_boxing:
Take that!!!
mickeyears 01-23-2009, 10:47 AM What goes around . . . . . .
Am I There Yet 01-23-2009, 03:02 PM I think I'm more shocked by the third sentence. I know I've been gone from the DIS for a long time, but... :icon_eek:
Mrs.PhD 01-23-2009, 03:32 PM yeah, I have been gone for a while, but I did not know he was a mod. I just thought he acted like one.
auntminnie 01-23-2009, 04:17 PM It should be interesting. Keep us posted please! I hate to do this, but I have to laugh.:icon_rofl:
PraktiklyPerkect 01-23-2009, 05:34 PM This maybe OT but I really have to ask.
Is it true, can Pete really 'ban' people from reading other websites? I have seen this mentioned on the Boards and that a Dis member will be banned if they post in certain places.
I know there is one in particular site that is mentioned where he says he will but, what would stop him from naming this one too?
How does he/they know what sites I read or visit?
I told my DH and he said that if I am not posting anything against their rules he can not 'restrict' or monitor my IP or cookies and use that as a basis for banning me.
DH told me that it is against the he ECPA Rules, Computer Fraud and Abuse Act and Title 18, section 1030 of the United States Code. (I use Paypal so this is considered a 'protected computer')
I just have a creepy feeling about being told where I can surf and post. Is this DisRule for real or do I feel pixiedust being blown?
Does anyone have an answer to this?

In Pete's own words!!!
After years of trying various approaches to keep their vacuous nonsense off these boards, the decision was made to take stronger action. No one that participates on that site can claim to be unaware of what goes on. Whether you participate directly in the harassment, or are just a sideline spectator – you offer your support to their efforts and not that’s not really the type of people we want on our site. So yes, in this instance we reversed a long standing policy that we would not ban people based on their activities on other sites.
I was a long time poster on the DIS... more than 8 years and had over 10,000 posts. When BanGate 2008 began, I posted a list of those who had been banned and expressed my displeasure. I was thrown off the DIS faster than you could say Mickey Mouse.
There have been other events (the bigotry shown to minorities for one) but I don't have the direct link to that. The above quote can be found in its entirety here:
http://disboards.com/showthread.php?t=1828365
I have nothing nice to say about the owners of the DIS, so I'll just leave it at that.
krasiva 01-23-2009, 06:22 PM Wow Virgo...I didn't know you were banned! I stick to a few of the threads which tend to be away from the community board. I used to post a lot more than I do now but I've been there for years and years with over 10k posts too.
SplshMtn99 is on another forum that I frequent and she too was banned but I don't know what for either. I guess I miss all the "good" stuff! :icon_winkwink:
Mrs.PhD 01-23-2009, 06:33 PM Yeah, I was one of the 1st banned from Dis when ban fest started. I said nothing on Dis boards to be banned, but was because I was a member at the other site. My emails were never responded too. I was never given a reason. I had no points when it happened. I was never given points at the time of the banning.
I don't think he would ban people for posting here. That other site has been a thorn in hid and other high ups at Dis side for a long time. As it is there are still some people who post at the other site who have not been banned, so there is no real rhyme or reason to the whole thing.
So why I don't really think he would ban anyone for posting there, logic is not something the power that be at Dis follow when making banning choices.
Not only was over 150 banned, but many of them were well loved and respected active members of Dis for years. People who never said anything bad about anyone (until the banning started.)
So you wouldn't think so, but who the heck knows? No logical person would think they would try to sue another webiste owner over their name either.
I will admit, I like eyes on ears better (as a name) anyway. :)
Mike, if this is something you don't want us discussing here, please let me know and I will remove this post.

Wow, I had no idea! I took a very short time off in '08 but I still had no idea. I don't frequent any other Disney sites so I guess I wouldn't know. Well, glad you're here!
PraktiklyPerkect 01-23-2009, 06:57 PM I appreciate ya'lls response.
I recognize many of your names from the other board-I have been 'lurking' for a while- ever since a good friend of mine got banned for linking to a list of banned people-she never did ANYTHING otherwise-no points etc. I have been hoping that I don't get banned for just reading there.
I just don't want a decision to come down and say-Choose!- here or DIS because now that will be easy. I really like this site. I appreciate I can get an answer with out being flamed for the question.
I have asked my 'friends' to come here so we can all 'chat' again but some are concerned that this site will be on the 'reason to ban' list.
I would miss them, but DH says that while I may be judged more harshly and get undeserved points for being a member of other sites he will hire the lawyer to fight for my rights to freely surf and subscribe to the internet and to stop someone tracking/stalking(stocking)- or tracing my movements without permission:)
krasiva 01-23-2009, 07:00 PM If people come over from the DIS and make up new user names how would anyone know? (That's what I did!)
*Admittedly, I'm not the most computer savy person so maybe they could. I'm loving this site so it would be an easy choice if I was forced into making one.
Mrs.PhD 01-23-2009, 07:40 PM I just realized my other posts makes me sound like I was the 1st banned. I was in the top 10, but Becka was the 1st.
The thing is as much as I missed the Dis at 1st, even if I was not banned I would of ended up leaving. There is no way as an adult I am letting anyone else tell me where I can and can not read or post. It is crazy to even consider otherwise. Many of the banned did so just for that reason. They spoke out about it, or mentioned someone who was banned, or posted the list of the banned, and they were banned just as quickly. Some people where on vacation (some to WDW) they came home to find they were banned.
Having said that, I don't think Dis will make that same mistake again with this site. There is no logical reason for him to do that. As said before, logic does not follow and I can't even start to understand the thought process of the powers that be there.
I don't think there is any reason to hide behind new names. Conduct yourself in a manor you can always be proud of and have nothing to worry about. Because really, being banned form Dis is not the end of the world, it isn't even the end of the internet.
For anyone who does end up being banned for dumb or no reason, be proud. You are in great company. :) My guess is the owners of this site are banned now too. :icon_kiss:

Amen. I have the aches and pains of a 42 year old. I'll be darned if someone is going to start treating me like a child.
I will respect whatever rules are set forth, on whatever message board I choose to post on, but nobody will tell me where I can, or cannot post. He's shown time and time again what kind of bully he can be. It's sad.

That's what I think!
As I tell people who make a snide comments when they see me smoke (eeegads) or drink I tell them.... "I have a Mother and she'd be pissed to see you on her turf!":D
Thank you for your attention.
Am I There Yet 01-23-2009, 09:42 PM "I have a Mother and she'd be pissed to see you on her turf!":D
I am so going to use that on my husband tonight. :icon_rofl:
myherozero 01-23-2009, 09:45 PM Haven't been banned, yet. But, I refuse to go back and post. This was the last straw. For banfest 08 I was pretty unaware. I would see a post here or there. Funnily enough it took them putting that sticky at the top of the CB to make me investigate and ultimately find the COS, and Delswife's blog that explained what happened. I was appalled. I lurked, until I got up the courage to post.
I guess it's the whole forbidden fruit analogy. Tell people where they can't go, and they will be bound and determined to not only question it, but go there. Someone at the COS put it beautifully, "Treat people like children, and they will act like children." This site as well treats everyone as adults, and it is a VERY welcome change from being constantly scared you are going to upset the wrong person, mod, seem combative, or the very worst encourage the behavior at the site that should not be named.
If Pete and Co. think they are the be all and end all of Disney on the web I would say they are wrong. Totally. There are hundreds of forums, fan sites, travel planning sites, etc. to choose from. Most with better information and less drama.
MooseTV 01-23-2009, 10:24 PM I posted on the COS so I guess that's it for me. That and I post here and I'm sure this place will be on the list soon. Oh ya Pete I'm EdCrbnSoul over there. Thanks

:icon_wow::icon_wow::icon_wow: You smoke and drink? Can't talk about that over with the others. :icon_rofl::icon_rofl:
I didn't get banned for posting the list though. I actually posted on somebody's YAGE thread and got booted with them.
But it's great to see you again. We have lots of catching up to do.

Sorry, I have bad habits-:icon_blah: and I don't have to worry about being flamed over here about them:)
I'm sorry, I thought that you posted somewhere else and since you were not able to let your friends know what exactly happened. We were not allowed to discuss exactly what happened.
I guess I thought wrong. :icon_redface:
Well, I will be posting here more so we have time to catch up.
dreamin in pa 01-23-2009, 11:57 PM Yeah, it's nice here. And I have the same bad habits.
Word got around what happened but nobody can talk about it. Thou shall not mentioned the banned. :icon_winkwink:
Andre 01-24-2009, 05:01 AM For banfest 08 I was pretty unaware. I would see a post here or there.
I guess that's the whole point of banning people who criticise you and then surgically removing any comments that you don't like. The general population who log in a few times a day simply don't see anything much going on when you are in control of what they read.
After all, it worked for many years in Russia.

virgo10 01-24-2009, 08:39 AM There have been other events (the bigotry shown to minorities for one) but I don't have the direct link to that.
This podcast was in regards to a naturalization ceremony that was held at WDW.
Kevin Klose - "Holiday Inn was at the Front Gate, catching 'em on the way out. 'You wanna be a maid?'"
Bob Varley - "Okay, I think I choked."
Kevin Klose - "We have Housekeeping positions available."
John Magi - "They went right from the indoctrination ceremony…"
Kevin Klose - "They were handed Housekeeping uniforms."
Bob Varley - "Well, we know this section's not gonna make it."
Kevin Klose - "Housekeeping or Gardner, take your pick."
The entire script can be found on the CoS:

What idiots!
mom2mykids 01-24-2009, 08:49 AM I missed the whole 2008 banning as I wasn't on much. Have to say I was shocked when I started hearing things and read the blogs!
OK, now what is COS?

Very true. After becoming educated on it though, and this happening they aren't going to get money off of my impressions.

Circle of Sarcasm on the UnDis site. Not for everyone but there is quite a bit of stimulating reading over there. :D

They really did cover it up good because I had no clue about all of it either!
I never really spent tons of hours on Dis so I guess it would have been easy for me to miss!
Knowing now what I do about Dis and the owners of the site and the way they handle themeselves I will not be going back to Dis! There is nothing on that site that I cant find elsewhere without the hassle of dealing with childish behaviors.
Besides I always felt like if you were not someone important or someone well established in the Dis Highschool Click you would basically get ignored. Yes you might be able to post and get replies but that was about it!
Also if you posted your thoughts on controversial subjects you were subjected to swift spakings if you did not side with the majority. I always found myself biting my tongue when I would see the underdog being attacked and the weird thing is that the minority in the real world seems to be the majority on Dis.. Ok I am shutting up before I get banned:icon_rofl:
Mrs.PhD 01-24-2009, 11:35 AM I always wondered how many people had no clue what was going on and just kind of wondered why everyone left.
So many people were banned that if I ever do read there I am shocked when I see a name left I recognize. It seemed like everyone I knew was banned.
I still have the original list on my computer somewhere if anyone wants to see it. Also the old threads from last year keep getting bumped at COS.
darlene9947 01-24-2009, 12:29 PM Hi, all! I was a member at the DIS since Feb 2003. Got banned last year during BF08. I never had a warning or infraction the entire time I was there. But after reading what happened over on the COS, I tried my hardest and got banned last May 18th.
I'm 54 yrs old and NO ONE is going to tell me where I can and cannot post. When I woke up on April 20, 2008 I do believe I was still in the United States of America. :icon_cool:
TiggerPiglet 01-24-2009, 12:48 PM I'm another banned member, was on the DIS for 6 + years, never had a warning or points, but was banned in the mass banning of '08.
The short of it is that Pete is a pathetic little man and the only way for him to feel big is to throw his wait around. Sad, but true.
Misty 01-24-2009, 01:34 PM I used to be one of those who blissfully went around unaware, until the days after banfest... and found myself on the community board, watching threads appear, getting my interest and then poof they'd disappear..... this lead me to going back to COS, yep I was on there years ago, but rarely posted... so banfest only brought me back to where I'd be before.
Nope not yet banned, although plenty points by way of gagging me for speaking out for those who could not. Would I do it again? heck yes. Worth being banned for? absolutely.
mckryan 01-25-2009, 11:00 AM I posted on the COS so I guess that's it for me. That and I post here and I'm sure this place will be on the list soon. Oh ya Pete I'm EdCrbnSoul over there. Thanks
Hey Handsome! :icon_winkwink:
ginnyfavers 01-25-2009, 07:48 PM Well, it would be really nice to have a board with the kind of traffic the DIS has, sans Pete Werner and all the restrictions on what people can and can't do and say. I've been a poster over at rec.arts.disney.parks for 11 years, and Pete says that's a nasty place, but I'll take it over the DIS any day.
I have a hard time listening to the DISUnplugged anymore, though I like to hear Kevin's restaurant reviews and I like the focus on real Disney news, rumors, and reports on the latest stuff. All of that is great, but Pete's ranting is just so obnoxious, I have been tuning in less and less.
The only reason I ever feel I need to to go to the DIS is the traffic - often it's the only place I can get answers quickly to a planning question. Of course, 3/4 of the answers will be junk from either well-meaning noobies or some idiot who wants to argue.
Back in the days before AOL dumped usenet, and then everyone else did, too, RADP had the kind of post count that meant you could get an answer in 10 minutes to anything. And it was usually a REALLY good answer, often from a leading guide book author, or someone who worked at the parks.
I hope this site gets a bunch of seasoned vets on it so it becomes *the* place for the latest news, rumors, tips and tricks! That would be great.
Andre 01-26-2009, 03:39 AM I have a hard time listening to the DISUnplugged anymore, though I like to hear Kevin's restaurant reviews and I like the focus on real Disney news, rumors, and reports on the latest stuff. All of that is great, but Pete's ranting is just so obnoxious, I have been tuning in less and less.
I exactly the same. I've got a backlog of four shows on my MP3 player at the moment which I need to either catch up on or delete. But Pete's rants about Disney's "arrogance" towards the fans are seeming so very hollow now that he's behaved just that same way himself. The amazing thing is that he really doesn't see what he's done.
I'm an ex-RADer by the way, the precursor to RADP.

<<waving>> Yoohoo! I showed up about 10 to 12 months after the split, I think. I'm still a newcomer, after 11 years. :icon_lol:
