View Full Version : POFQ Stream back up mmexpress 01-22-2012, 05:49 PM Sorry folks, New group moved in next door and were complaining about the camera so I took it down. Didn't want any trouble. I'mNoPrince 01-22-2012, 06:28 PM We need to start hiding these in Stuffed Mickeys lol Waternoose 01-22-2012, 06:38 PM The neighbors complained to you? If that was the case you should have invited them in and introduced them to EOE and let them know theres nothing fishy going on.... Seriously, that camera showed absolutely nothing worthy of a complaint from anyone. I totally understand not wanting to ruffle feathers though and I really hate seeing members have to go through this as it only disrupts their trips and their desire to share the magic in the future! Enjoy the rest of your trip mme! TiggerPiglet 01-22-2012, 06:53 PM That really stinks. So sorry that happened to you guys. Did the people actually knock on your door or was the complaint relayed to you through management? mmexpress 01-22-2012, 09:29 PM I happened to be in the room and heard them complaining to each other outside, one of them said they should go to the front desk. I pulled the cam down before I was told to to avoid a confrontation with management. Waternoose 01-22-2012, 10:50 PM Glad to hear you didn't get hounded by the front desk - enjoy the rest of your vacation! Andre 01-23-2012, 06:15 AM Maybe they'll leave before you do? I had missed the fact that you were streaming from POFQ, and would really have liked to have seen the view. :( Andre ZWarrior 01-23-2012, 10:28 AM *sigh* And another great stream falls to the whims of the People-Can't-Leave-Other-People-Alone virus. Thanks for trying! I was putting my camera high in the window above the natural line of sight for people when I was at ASMo (not that it mattered since the view sucked), but at Hilton DTD I put it smack dab in the middle of the window since I was on the 11th floor and there wasn't likely to be anybody walking by outside. With that thought in mind, where do most of us put our cameras? Perhaps that may be the key to avoiding the nosy people who complain about everything. mmexpress 01-23-2012, 01:01 PM I'm thinking about modifying an old resort mug and hiding a camera in it. lol Waternoose 01-23-2012, 01:14 PM Thats a very interesting idea, though if it was directly in the window passerbys would likely still be able to see it if they looked closely and the fact that it was hidden might draw even more critics. Let us know if you do and how it turns out. Also can always do a sign - had a few streamers have used them so far and no issues. klick4nick 01-23-2012, 04:20 PM I am a great fan of EoE, and infact have through this site had some fantastic help in planning four trips over from the UK. Thank You. With regards to streaming I fully understand why this would be of significant interest to other users. I also recognise the lengths that streamers will go to in order to share the magic of Disney with EoE subscribers. I don't post this response to be controversial, and it may well be viewed less favourably by certain subscribers, I hope not. Some of the responses around park camera's and poolside pictures and how visitors attending parks and resorts are 'living their lives thinking its all about them all the time' and 'People who can't leave people alone' i.e. those that are streamers, I feel does not reflect the majority of resort / park users views. From my perspective, as a visitor and user of the parks / resorts I would fully expect - what would be called collatoral intrusion - i.e. to be captured somewhere on a camera or in a picture as people go about their normal holiday fun. I simply can't ask people to move out of the back of the 'shot' when taking the picture. Infact I have filmed things and captured the 'innocent' so to speak. Like wise CCTV cameras I would expect to be a preventative measure in detering crime, and also for public safety, movement of crowds and monitoring of numbers etc. However: I don't think it unreasonable to enter and leave what is in effect 'my temporary' home' or place that I am staying (room) with a degree of privacy, for both my family and I. Let's not forget, to the average patron, as well as being filmed - the camera may fuel the thought does it pick up sound, and with little or no explanation of the camera's purpose - draw many a conclusion, including those more sinister as to the camera's purpose. I would not 'expect' to be filmed in such a manner, and for that matter for it to be broadcast across the internet. Am I being over sensitive I ask myself ?. Here's the deal, I think it's a fantastic idea that a card or poster is placed in the window. It explains the camera's purpose. However with that in mind it may alert others to some expensive hardware being in the room. If you the streamer are not happy to do that - then that may I suggest says it all, is that an unfair view ? It's also about where the camera is situated, and the immediate view or capture of people either side of it. To covertly film, or even disguise the camera will no doubt draw even more suspicion as to it's purpose instead of the 'users quite genuine motives'. Is there a considered view that may convince me otherwise ? or a possible solution ? I hope this reply viewed as a fair reflection of another resort users view. As always - a great site with first rate subscribers. Regards. :) Waternoose 01-23-2012, 09:06 PM We have had well over 300 streams and had just 3-4 complaints in 3 years time so I don't think its a major issue, just minor setbacks that disrupt the streamers eagerness to share the magic and pay it forward. I am confident that we all do our best to minimize those occurrences with absolutely no malintent whatsoever as we keep our eyes on the ears today, tomorrow, and in the future. Fizbain 01-23-2012, 09:14 PM Yeah, when it is out in the open and conspicuous i would think it would be less of a concern. But then again if they can't see it. OK, maybe I just can't make up my mind. So sorry to hear.. Thanks for trying. I have often thought the same thing klick. I understand the concern. Had i seen a web cam or camcorder in a window or balcony before know about EOE, I am not sure what I would have thought. I occasionally try to figure out a way to keep everyone happy. I know it is impossible, but I can try. I try to compare this to youtube. I mean how many embarrassing videos wind up there of people that have no idea they are being posted. But of course these are live. And the streams from the rooms can be live 24/7 unlike most of the youtube stuff. But our feeds are rarely saved so if you don't catch it live you don't usually get to see it. I mean, I get it. I just would prefer if I didn't have too. Andre 01-24-2012, 11:13 AM POFQ feed is back up again (thanks for the heads-up Fiz). Nice view - just need to clean the condensation off the window. :) I guess the neighbours went away - or a quick chat and they now understand what is cam is about maybe? MME - how long are you there for, is it worth me pointing to the feed from portorleans.org? Andre mmexpress 01-24-2012, 11:37 AM I check out tomorrow (Wednesday) Andre, so the feed will come down sometime in the morning. Andre 01-24-2012, 02:47 PM Ah, OK, probably not worth linking for a few hours I guess. Lovely river view though. What's the construction work down by the main lobby looking like by the way? Not too much in the way I hope. (Do you have any photos of that area incidentally?) Andre mmexpress 01-24-2012, 03:36 PM They have the rear courtyard between the store and food court all closed off, and yes I did get a few photos for you including two that I reached over the wall for. Let me know where to send them. They also have building 6 closed off foe exterior re-paint, got shots of that too. Andre 01-24-2012, 05:02 PM Let me know where to send them. Email to admin (@t) portorleans.org would be great, many thanks. One last quick question, if you are carrying any sort of smartphone/pad/etc wi-fi enabled device around with you, could you maybe do a few quick speedtest.net app results (download and upload speeds) using the free guest wi-fi at the resort? In-room speed seems slower than lobby/pool/bus stop/etc from what I've been hearing so far, but I'd love a few objective results from POFQ to see if they are consistent. And you thought you were on vacation...! :) Andre Fizbain 01-25-2012, 10:36 PM By brother in law will be there Apr 8-14 and should be getting a river view. At least that is what they paid for. Maybe I'll send him with my hardware and see if we can stream. Maybe send him with the EOE sign too. klick4nick 01-27-2012, 02:31 PM I sort of understand, but still am not fully convinced with the intrusive element of what you can see either side room wise. I have stayed at POFQ twice and love it. We have often stepped out of the room, and stood on the balcony / walkway outside the room and admired the view. However, as 'noose' states there have been few if no complaints through subscribers to this site. Streaming from a room in a resort in the UK is not a common thing, but here's the deal, us Brit's might just be a little too reserved. Share it, enjoy it...who knows, we cant afford to come across this year...so I might even take a sneek peek to 'keep the Disney buzz' going. I have shared a genuine opinion, which has been met with some likewise thoughtful responses, thanks. As to those there or about to embark on another Disney adventure, have a fantastic, fun filled family frenzy, tell Mickey we'll be over next year !! :):icon_lol::):icon_winkwink::):icon_lol: Fizbain 01-27-2012, 03:52 PM Hey Klick.. you mention UK. My image of the UK is that pretty much everything has a video camera attached too it. At least the shows I have seen made it seem that way. Is that just in some areas? All over? Just in the larger cities? Of course my perception may be limited to the fact that I get pretty much all my info from BBC America :) klick4nick 01-27-2012, 11:25 PM Good day Fizbain, Many of the Major Cities have extensive CCTV, and you can be tracked on pretty much all of the major routes in and out. Number plate recognition cameras (or licence plate in the US) flag up vehicles that may have been involved in crime, or be of interest to the authorities. Major 'freeways' have cameras that monitor traffic congestion and most 'malls' and shops as have CCTV. However if any of the authorities use these for covert purposes where private information could be obtained about individuals then the Regulation of Investigatory Powers Act 2000, governs this. Basically this has to be authorised, and is reviewable by a panel - often made up from the judiciary. So yeah, your not too far off the mark, cameras are pretty much everywhere in the major cities. So we are all part of one big 'you tube' moment. :icon_winkwink: Who is watching you:icon_winkwink: mom2mykids 01-28-2012, 02:28 PM Good day Fizbain, So yeah, your not too far off the mark, cameras are pretty much everywhere in the major cities. So we are all part of one big 'you tube' moment. :icon_winkwink: Who is watching you:icon_winkwink: Sounds a little like Big Brother! Fizbain 01-30-2012, 10:59 AM Hey M2M, I kinda thought the same thing in the little understanding I had. But reading klicks post it seems to be a bit more cities only. BamaJenn 01-31-2012, 07:26 AM I happened to be in the room and heard them complaining to each other outside, one of them said they should go to the front desk. I pulled the cam down before I was told to to avoid a confrontation with management. Blahhhhh! So sorry you had to do this. Makes you wonder though what they were so afraid of people seeing huh? :icon_lol: klick4nick 02-04-2012, 12:25 AM I take it things are pretty much the same in the USA re camera's and the cities ? Fizbain 02-04-2012, 09:40 AM There are cameras around but most of them are not police / government controlled. Mush of the video I see on the news is either from a cell phone or a business security cam. Although it seems most of the police cars are now video equipped and same with school buses. And there is VERY much push back on things like traffic cameras at stop lights and speed cameras on the roads. Heck, in my state the local police are not even allowed to use radar/lidar for speed control, only the state police may. So although it's out there my current understanding (Gathered from my little perspective on the world) is that the gov has many more in the UK than in the US. klick4nick 02-04-2012, 01:46 PM Research shows 1.85m CCTV cameras across Britain, most of them indoors and privately operated. Further research says that's 1 for every 32 people in the UK. Smile please, say cheese your on camera. :icon_blah: |
