Last July in Disney, I took well over 1,000 pictures with my Canon PowerShot S50. I uploaded all of the pictures to my computer and then started having problems with the camera's memory card. I replaced it.

Ever since, almost every time I upload pictures to my computer, I get one or two previously unseen pictures from July's trip. Today, I uploaded some pictures for an eBay auction and found four Disney pictures in the folder.

Does anyone have an idea what's going on with my camera? I'm totally perplexed. I do know the camera is on its last legs and I'm looking for a new one, but I want to make sure I retrieve whatever pictures may be still stored in it.

I'd open that memory card as another drive, instead of letting the computer automatically upload the photos. There might be another folder on the memory card that it's finding when it tries to upload the current pictures. I know I've had a memory card that has a couple different folders, and would have some pictures in each folder. Hope that helped and didn't make it more confusing. Good luck.

you can try reformating the card

it could also be that the Camera has some internal storage and it's moving the pictures onto the NEW card. you should be able to see this in setting by taking the card out and trying to view from the camera only. If so you should be able to move all to the card and then delete them from the camera

you should be able to see that in settings. If not Then I agree the Computer has a corrupt file and when you open the card it's getting some of that corruption in the New cards file. Nothing can really be done about that at all.

I agree with INP, it sounds like it has some kind of internal memory within the camera itself, but upon research that camera doesn't. So, i would say it's some kind of firmware issue or has a corrupt file.

What kind of corrupt file could my computer have? I think the camera must have some sort of internal memory. How else could the pictures be transferred to my computer when my camera has a brand new memory card that was not used when the photos were being taken? I'm sorry -- I'm just so confused! :icon_cry:

The only thing I can think of would be a firmware issue. Possibly between your camera & operating system you are running?! :icon_thinking:
Not too sure what else this could be as I have never ran into this problem before :icon_shrug:
This link is from Canon & might have some sort of help to offer in firmware updates & such

I'll keep looking for another answer though

So when you say that new pictures are showing up from you previous trip, where are they showing up? On the camera? On The PC? If on the PC, in the same location as the old pics? New location? Can you check the date, time stamp on the pics?

The Disney pictures, with the date and time stamp from last July, are showing up in the PC folder with the recent photos I've taken. When I uploaded pictures I took on Monday, some Disney pictures were also in that folder.

I haven't had a chance to check out Mike's link, but I'm hoping to have time to do that tonight. :)

Definitely Odd. The specs on your camera I saw did not say anything about internal memory but that is definitely what seems to be. If you take the memory card out and try to take a picture, or look at pictures on the camera or hook it up to the PC and see if you see any thing? Does any of that work?

I removed the memory card. The camera won't take pictures without it and nothing comes up when I hook it up to the PC. Maybe it's time to give up.

Mike, thanks for the link to the Canon website. It has lots of good info for the camera.

I'm in the market for a new camera, but I'm not sure I'll be able to get one before our next Disney trip. The problems in Japan have affected manufacturing for all of the camera companies and prices have skyrocketed. I'm kicking myself, because I could have bought a Panasonic Lumix FZ40 on Amazon for $270 in January. It's now $500. :icon_cry:

kbmum if your looking to get that Panasonic camera try Dell they have it for 300, but if you break down and decide to spend 500 for a camera might I suggest Nikon.

Thanks for the tip. The Dell site now lists it at $399. :( I was also considering a Canon PowerShot SX20IS and a Nikon CoolPix P500. I'm not willing to spend $500 for any camera, so I'll just have to wait until production gets going and prices come down again. It's probably too much to hope this will happen in the next couple of months.

Hey kbmum
I didn't find a SX20 IS but did find a SX30IS available for 429.00
Here's a link I use this company for all my camera needs

They also carry the Nikon Coolpix 500 in black & red for 399.95
